Neuroscientist William Greenough of the Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois, known for his contributions to the understanding of the brain’s ability to grow and improve, says it is up to us to develop our brains well into maturity and old age regardless of the circumstances we are faced with. We have to pump up our emotional muscles to impact our brain, like a weight lifter pumps up his muscles for a positive impact to his body. In other words, ‘use it or lose it’.
