“One Can and Must”
Please understand, yoga by its very nature is challenging. Yoga literally means "balance" within mind (Knowing yourself), body (Seeing yourself) and spirit (Being Yourself). In order to have balance one needs to expose the imbalance within one’s mind and move toward balance. Sometimes it's not easy to see and deal with our imbalances within our brain so things get challenging. As humans we tend to have the greatest opportunities for growth in the challenges we encounter. So please experience these challenges positively.
It's time to open, strengthen and awaken to all the possibilities!
A Rumi yoga class is not a contest between you or anyone you may be practicing with. It isn't even a contest between you and yourself. Forget about how loose and strong you used to be way back when. Give up any aspirations of how loose and strong you hope to be one day. Just be where you are! Make that o.k. Doing Rumi yoga correctly means not trying to get anywhere, but being where you are as fully as possible. You'll benefit from class by your effort regardless of how far or deep you get. As long as you are feeling it and you are breathing calmly, and are present, you're practicing correctly.
Please don't push too hard. These Rumi Yoga poses should hurt good, not bad. There has to be a sweetness and a sense of freedom to every pose. Nothing should ever be excruciating.
Occasionally or maybe more so you may notice yourself getting frustrated, judgmental, critical and reactive.
Use this safe environment to start working on these old habit patterns.
We are all quite attached to our bodies so it is very natural for a lot of things to arise. Please know that calmness and self acceptance are at the very root of Rumi Yoga health philosophy. Without this a fitness regime is very superficial. Without this we are building our whole house on a shaky foundation.
Whenever you catch yourself pushing too hard, realize you may not be accepting where you're at, and let it go! Whenever you catch yourself being self judgmental or critical realize you are really lacking nothing and it's actually the judgments and criticism that's keeping you down. Let it go! Whenever you catch yourself being reactive, let it go! Get calm, even if it means backing off.
Welcome to poetry in motion.

Class Descriptions
Level 1-2: Knowing Yourself and Seeing Yourself – Level 1 is not about how far you can stretch your body, but rather how far you can stretch your mind. Knowing Yourself is all about how far you can see beyond what meets the eyes. This class is for an absolute beginner or the most advanced yoga practitioner since it focuses on psychological and mental alignment. Level 2 is all about integrating the blue print you create in your mind, with the reality you like to manifest in your life. Here we learn the application of what we have created in our mind.
Level 3-4: Being Yourself, and Union With the Divine Self - This is a private class. Permission is needed prior to day of attendance.
All Levels: Mixture of Rumi Yoga Flow - This class is for anybody and everybody.
*Private Class. Permission needed prior to the day attending.
Taking your first class
If you're attending a Rumi Yoga class in Pasadena, please keep in mind that they can get crowded, so you'll want to show up 10-20 minutes early, to make sure you get a spot.
As a beginner, you're welcome to any of the Level 1-2 classes on the Rumi Yoga schedule. They can get hot and sweaty (but only from student-generated heat, the room is never artificially heated). Don't worry, the emphasis, especially with Dr. Mir's Rumi Yoga, is to go at your own pace, according to how YOU feel. This is the real yoga, starting to learn how to listen to yourself, so you know how to work with your body and feelings.
There's metered parking in the area, so bring quarters. Remember that Dr. Mir likes to take the full hour-and-a-half or more for class, so fill up your meter! If you need a mat, there are used mats for free. However, it is strongly recommended that you invest in your own mat as it is much more sanitary.
Wear comfortable clothing. Students often find it helpful to wear a top that stays close to the body, so it does not cover your face when your torso is inverted, like in a forward bend.
Check list of what to bring and what to keep in mind:
- Yoga mat (or free at the studio)
- Towel
- Quarters for parking
- Water bottle, if you need it
AND SHOW UP EARLY!!!
